Tuma TBR: Translated Books

Interested in reading more translated books? Here are some titles that are on my personal TBR. Which ones interest you most?

1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, a dystopian trilogy, translated from Japanese.

The Alchemist by Paolo Coehlo

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, a classic literary piece about a boy's journey, translated from Portuguese.

Before the coffee gets cold

Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi about a special coffee shop that lets its patrons travel back in time, translated from Japanese.

One Hundred Years of Solitude

One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez, the epic literary story of the Buendiá family, translated from Spanish.

A Man Called Ove

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman tells the story of Ove who others see only as a cranky old man, translated from Swedish.

Three Strong Women

Three Strong Women by Marie Ndiaye follow three women's experiences immigrating to and from Senegal, translated from French.

The Vegetarian

The Vegetarian by Han Kang is an unsettling novel about one woman's struggle with power, violence, and control, translated from Korean.

Frankenstien in Baghdad

Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi, a retelling of the original sci-fi novel, translated from Arabic.

What I enjoy most about translated novels is getting to experience different narrative norms because books like everything else in life are culturally nuanced. And so the writings of other cultures follow different rules from American or western narratives and I love experiencing those differences!

So, I can't wait to try all of these books, but especially Before the Coffee Gets Cold, The Vegetarian (even though the synopsis scares me a little), and A Man Called Ove.

🌍 What about you? Which of these titles are you also adding to your TBR or already have added?
