Currently Reading: Yinka, Where is Your Huzband? By Lizzie Damilola Blackburn

I'm currently reading Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband by Lizzie Damilola Blackburn and here are my thoughts so far:

Yinka, Yinka, Yinka . . . I am enjoying this book IMMENSELY but I am also spending nearly my entire time while reading SHAKING MY DAMN HEAD at Yinka's nonsense!
Her insecurities both annoy me and sadden me. It's hard for me to relate to this level of insecurity (I was a late bloomer and didn't care about romance for a LOONG time), but I do know they're realistic for many girls/women/femmes. Parents are so essential for esteem building and I wonder if they realize just how much, especially African parents. Always being so critical and rarely giving compliments can be detrimental to how you view yourself. I was lucky in that my parents were free with their compliments. I knew they thought I was beautiful and smart and a good person. (I also knew they thought I lacked affection, a homebody, and messy! >_< If African parents are good at ONE thing, it's BRUTAL honesty.)
BUT, there's GROWTH for Yinka and I am living for it.
Also, the Google search and history screenshots? FRIGGIN hilarious, cringy, and oh-so-relatable! 😭😩😅
Lastly, we get #Aromantic representation 🥰 and it happens to be my fave character in the book (#NoSpoilers).
Talk with me:
1. Have you read Yinka? Did she annoy you too or am I being too harsh?
2. What are you currently reading and loving right now?
Laters,

P.S. It's Small Business Week. What small businesses have you supported?
