Sapphic or Lesbian Book Recommendations

Fatuma Hydara

Hello Everyone!

I've been creating monthly reading challenges as a way to push myself to read more diversely as well as help you all do the same! Each month, I think about what area I should increase my reading and create a challenge accordingly.

For Women's History Month, I realized that I don't know much about the Lesbian woman perspective, especially the intersectionality of being Lesbian and a Woman of Color. So, this month's challenge is to read a book with sapphic or lesbian representation.

Here are some recommendations for you to check as out if you'd like to join in on the challenge:

You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat
Cantoras by Carolina de Robertis
In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado
  • You Exist Too Much by Zaina Arafat is about a Palestinian woman with a "love addiction." (Literary Fiction)
  • Cantoras by Carolina De Robertis is about a group of lesbian living together in isolation who refer to themselves as "cantoras" as a code name to protect themselves against an intolerance political landscape of Uruguay. (Historical Fiction)
  • In the Dream House by Carmen Maria Machado is a deeply moving and disturbing memoir sharing Machado's experiences of being in a abusive relationship with a woman.
Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde The Stars and the Blackness Between Them by Junauda Petrus
  • Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron is a modern retelling of Cinderella. Our protagonist Sophie would rather marry her childhood bff, Erin, rather than be paraded in front of suitors at the yearly ball.
  • Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde is about two very different girls. Charlie is a vlogger and likes to stand out. Taylor is autistic and doesn't to blend in. How will each of them make things work for their respective crushes?
  • The Stars and the Blackness Between Them by Junauda Petrus is a beautiful Caribbean infused romance between Audre who was sent away from her home in Trinidad when she's caught with another girl and Mabel who is struggling with being diagnosed with a disease with no cure.

Which titles are you adding to your TBR?

**Profits from all queer purchases this month will be donated to orgs fighting anti-trans bill across the country. Shop now.
